Guided Reflection

Reflection is the process of thinking deeply about a situation or experience to gain a better understanding of it and to identify opportunities for growth and development. Reflection can be done individually or as part of a coaching or mentoring relationship.

Step by step:

1.Choose a situation or experience to reflect upon: Choose a situation or experience that you want to explore and understand better.
  • What situation or experience do I want to reflect upon?
  • Why is this situation or experience important to reflect upon?
2.Describe the situation: Write down the details of the situation or experience, including what happened, when, and where.
  • What happened in the situation or experience?
  • When and where did it occur?
3.Identify emotions and thoughts: Consider the emotions and thoughts that you experienced during the situation. Write them down.
  • What emotions and thoughts did I experience during the situation or experience?
  • How did these emotions and thoughts influence my behavior?
4.Reflect on the experience: Consider what you learned from the situation.
  • What did I learn from the situation or experience?
  • What did I do well?
  • What could I have done differently?
5.Identify opportunities for growth and development: Based on your reflection, identify opportunities for growth and development. What actions can you take to improve?
  • Based on my reflection, what opportunities for growth and development do I identify?
  • What actions can I take to improve in similar situations in the future?
